Use a consistent rabbit feeding program suited to the animals’ life stage, with reliable water at every drinking point. Keep growing rabbits, breeding adults and nursing does distinct when evaluating the ration.
The University of Maine rabbit bulletin discusses complete feeds, fiber and water. Use it with advice for your actual stock and conditions.
Know which feed is being used
Keep the current bag label and record the product and lot when available. Store feed according to the supplier’s directions and check its condition before feeding.
If the regular product becomes unavailable, ask how to make an appropriate transition. A replacement bag with a similar photograph is not necessarily the same formulation or intended use.
Evaluate fiber and alternatives within the full diet
Rabbits need a suitable diet that supports normal digestive function. Avoid replacing a balanced program with miscellaneous garden material because it appears inexpensive or natural.
Have any planned forage or alternative-feed program assessed as a whole. This is especially useful when the growth goal depends on a consistent supply of animals for processing.
Check water where the rabbit drinks
A full reservoir does not prove every drinking point is working. Check delivery, cleanliness and access during ordinary chores, including periods of hot or freezing weather.
Write down the backup arrangement and make sure another caregiver can use it. Feeding records are difficult to interpret when an unnoticed water interruption has occurred.
Connect daily observations to the growing record
Note changes in appetite, droppings, behavior or growth and obtain veterinary advice for concerns. Do not try to correct every problem by adding feed or changing products repeatedly.
Keep feed changes beside the group’s age and weight records. If the rabbits are not progressing as expected, those details can help the adviser investigate and help you discuss timing with Underground Processing.
Record feed changes, water interruptions and changes in appetite, droppings or growth under the same group ID. Bring that record to the adviser when performance changes instead of repeatedly switching feeds without a clear reason.
